Canteen Board
Officer help
How to use the officer desk and what the television in the hall shows.
Sign in to the desk
The officer desk is your board's address with /admin on the end. The first username was shown when the board opened. It is often admin. The password was shown once on that page. It is not emailed.
The six tiles
After you sign in, the home page has six tiles.
- Post an event. Add a supper, a meeting, or a game night. It shows on the TV as soon as you save.
- Put up a notice. Short notes for the hall. Each one that is on shows on the TV until you turn it off.
- Photos waiting. Guests send photos with the scan code. Nothing shows on the TV until you approve it.
- Read notes. Guests leave notes with the note scan code. The notes stay on this desk. They are not shown on the TV.
- What's on the TV. Choose the layouts, the notices, the birthdays, and the look of the television.
- Settings. The post name, the officers, the password, and the Auxiliary badge.
Post an event
Open Post an event. Give it a name, pick the day, set the start time, and say where it is. The end time starts two hours later. You can change it. Save. The television shows the start time and the end time, such as Tonight · 5:30 – 7:30 PM.
Notices
Open Put up a notice. Write a title and a short note, then save. Every notice that is turned on shows on the TV. When they do not all fit, the list walks down. Turn one off when it is finished.
Approving photos
Open Photos waiting. Approve a photo to put it on the TV, or remove it. Approved photos in the album that is on the television play in the slideshow.
Reading notes
Open Read notes. A note can have a name and a way to reply. Mark it read when you have seen it. Notes are not shown on the television.
What's on the TV
Full shows tonight, the next 30 days, photographs, and one spot that takes turns. Events focus makes tonight and the month larger. Photo focus gives the photographs most of the screen. Simple centers the clock. Classic puts a large tonight and the notices on the left, the next 30 days on the right, a feature card, and the feedback and photo codes side by side.
Turn on the layouts you want. Pick at least one. When more than one is on, choose how many minutes between them. Every television at the post changes at the same minute. The full-screen photo slideshow shows the board, then fills the screen with your approved photos, then shows the board again. You set those times under the switch.
Birthdays and anniversaries stay off until you turn that switch on. Only members who said yes are shown. The line looks like Happy birthday, Bob S.
Weather comes from the US National Weather Service. We send the board's coordinates only. It shows for posts in the United States.
Auxiliary badge
Events and notices from your Auxiliary get a colored badge on the TV. Turn the badge on in Settings, then pick the label, the color, and the logo. When it is on, Post an event asks who is hosting.
Settings
Settings holds the post name, the address, the phone, the officers, and the password. The scan-code flyer is there too. Print it for the bar and the bulletin board.
Add officers
Sign in, open Settings, and add a name and a password under Officers. An admin can add other officers. Officers run the desk and the event list.
Forgot password
On the desk sign-in page, choose Forgot password? We email one link to the owner email on file. The link works once and expires in 30 minutes. Choose a new password on that page. Older sign-ins stop working.
Put the board on a television
A Fire Stick, Apple TV, Roku, or most smart TVs can open the board in a browser. You can also open canteenboard.com/tv, which shows a short code. Enter that code on the desk so the television opens this board.
How photo storage works
Your board keeps your newest 2,000 photos. Older ones are removed automatically. Mark a photo Keep to hold on to it. Photos in an album that is on the television are kept too. If those photos alone are over the limit, they stay and the desk tells you. The limit can be different on another plan. We keep resized copies of each photo for the board and do not keep the original file.
